WIMBLEDON RECORD SETTER HAS NCHSAA CONNECTION
John Isner has completed an epic tennis battle at Wimbledon that some are saying is the “greatest match ever played,” and it was certainly the longest.
In a match that lasted over 11 hours and spanned three days, Isner finally outlasted Nicolas Mahut 70-68 in the fifth set
after play was suspended on Wednesday with the score tied at 59-59.
Isner, who played collegiately at the University of Georgia, was the 2001 North Carolina High School Athletic Association state men’s 4-A singles champion. Isner, who graduated from Greensboro Page, beat Will Plyler of Raleigh Broughton in straight sets to win the state championship.
