CHAPEL HILL— Keyanna Spivey from Rocky Mount High School and Austin Nelson from North Henderson High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Spivey, a senior on the Rocky Mount women’s basketball team, led the Lady Gryphons to a 19-3 record and 10-0 mark in the Big East Conference. She was named to the Big East All-Tournament team and recognized for scoring 1,000 career points after playing J.H. Rose on December 8th. She was also selected to the Big East All-Conference Team.
Nelson, a senior on the North Henderson basketball team, became the first player in school history to reach the 2,000-point plateau, and just the fourth in Western North Carolina to achieve the feat. He eclipsed the mark in a playoff game against Cuthbertson, scoring 25 points on the night. Nelson is averaging 28.4 points a game and shooting almost 40% from three-point range. He has been selected to the NC-SC All-Star game.
