STUDENTS FROM ROXBORO COMMUNITY & NORTH STANLY EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Mackenzi Thornburg from Roxboro Community School and Cameron Davis from North Stanly High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Thornburg, a senior at Roxboro Community on the volleyball team, had a huge week leading the Bulldogs to sweeps against Voyager Academy and Durham Riverside. She is a four-year starter and posted, 61 assists, 12 digs, 10 aces, five kills and four blocks during the week. Thornburg is second-best statewide in the 1A classification in assists with 271 on the year and fifth in aces with 31. She has committed to continue her volleyball career next year at High Point University.

Davis, a junior at North Stanly on the football team, powered his way to a new school record with 404 yards rushing in a 56-21 win over rival West Stanly. He carried 23 times on the night scoring six touchdowns as the Comets improved to 3-0 on the year. North Stanly has the week off ahead of their September 15th clash with Northwest Cabarrus.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in early May. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
