STUDENTS FROM HICKORY RIDGE & HOLLY SPRINGS EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Nia Daniel from Hickory Ridge High School and Marcus Elliott from Holly Springs High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators. 

Daniel, a senior on the women’s basketball team at Hickory Ridge, led the Ragin’ Bulls to two victories over non-conference opponents including her first double-double of the year. Daniel scored 22 points, with 11 steals, seven rebounds and two assists in a win over Sun Valley. Then against J.M. Robinson, Daniel was 8 for 13 as she scored 17 points with seven rebounds and five assists. She has signed with UNC for 2019.

Elliott, a junior at Holly Springs, had 17 assists and no turnovers while leading his team to two victories this week. He helped his team rout Green Hope and Heritage by a combined 64 points. He added 32 points in the games, hitting eight of his 14 three-point attempts.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
