CHAPEL HILL— Lyrik Thorne from Ledford High School and Themus Fulks from North Davidson High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Thorne, a senior from the Ledford women’s basketball team, had a pair of big games during the week. She scored 32 points with four assists, eight rebounds and converted 13 of 15 free throw attempts in a non-conference loss to Ragsdale. Then in a conference win over West Davidson, she poured in 26 points with nine rebounds, three assists and made six of her ten free throws. Earlier in the season, she surpassed the 2,000 career point mark, making her the all-time leading scorer in school history. She is currently just 55 points away from becoming the all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball for Davidson County.
Fulks, a senior on the North Davidson men’s basketball team, led the team to a 3-0 record on the week. During the wins, Fulks averaged 38.3 points per game while shooting 63.3% from the field and 16 of 19 from the foul line. Against East Davidson, he scored 47 points with four rebounds, six assists and eight steals. Then against Oak Grove, he exploded for 37 points with four rebounds, five assists and five steals. He capped off the week with 31 points, six rebounds and three assists against North Forsyth.
