STUDENTS FROM EAST SURRY & BROUGHTON EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Meg Hardesty from Broughton High School and Stephen Gosnell from East Surry High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Hardesty, a senior on the Broughton women’s tennis team, powered through intense heat to a 10-7 in her singles match against Leesville. Her pivotal win in a tie-breaker over Cardinal Gibbons helped give the Capitals a 4-2 advantage in singles. Hardesty also paired with Maia Stewart to clench victory in #2 doubles to break a long-held Cardinal Gibbons streak.

Gosnell, a junior on the East Surry football team, led the Cardinals to 35-31 win against the cross-county rivals, North Surry. The quarterback completed 9 of 14 passes for 138 yards, rushing for 135 yards and 4 touchdowns in the game. He also played a few snaps at wide receiver, catching 3 passes for 68 yards and another touchdown, accounting for 341 yards and 5 scores in total.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in early May. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
