CHAPEL HILL— Jacob Cline from North Lincoln High School and Cole Scarantino from Voyager Academy have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Cline, a junior on the North Lincoln football team, picked off four passes on Friday Night in the team’s first round playoff game against Smoky Mountain. Cline returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown, helping his team to a 42-6 victory over the Mustangs. North Lincoln hosts cross-county rival East Lincoln in the second round of the playoffs this Friday.
Scarantino, a junior on the Vikings men’s soccer team, picked up the game-winning goal in the East Regional Finals against Lejeune, lifting his team to the first State Championship Appearance in program history. He followed that up with a two-goal performance in the State Championship, scoring both goals in his team’s 2-1 victory over Community School of Davidson. Scarantino’s golden goal in overtime earned him the game’s MVP honors as he finished his junior season with 17 goals and 17 assists.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
