CHAPEL HILL— Breanna Proctor from Northeastern High School and Tyler Bowersox from South Brunswick High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Proctor, a junior on the Eagles women’s basketball team surpassed 1,000 career rebounds and hit the game winning shot in Northeastern’s 43-42 win against Currituck on Friday. She finished the game with 16 points, 16 rebounds and four steals. She has tallied a double-double in each game she’s played in this season and is averaging 19.6 rebounds this year. She is being recruited by ECU, UNCG and Georgia State.
Bowersox, a senior on the South Brunswick swim team swam two personal best times at the 3A East Regional on Friday. His 1:57.03 time in the 200 yard individual medley placed him second with his 57.80 second time in the 100 Breaststroke placing him first in the meet. He anchored the 200 Free Relay team that finished first in the region and was on the second place 200 Medley Relay team. His performances helped power South Brunswick to a second place finish in the 3A Eastern Region behind Chapel Hill.
TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
