CHAPEL HILL— Lizah Pistorio from Providence High School and Graham Walston from North Johnston High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Pistorio, a senior from the Providence women’s soccer team, helped the Panthers defeat South Mecklenburg, pitching a shutout in the 4-0 win while recording 8 saves against the #12 team in the state. She then led her team to another shutout win, this one a 2-0 victory over the #13 team in the state, Ardrey Kell, recording 13 saves in the game. So far Pistorio has anchored the team to a 5-0 record in conference play this year.
Walston, a junior on the North Johnston tennis and track teams, had a great week in both sports. On Monday, he collected his first event win in track, winning the 1600 Meters in a meet against Nash Central and Southwest Edgecombe. Then on Tuesday, he led North Johnston past Nash Central in tennis, winning his singles match 6-0, 2-6, 10-2 before clinching the dual match with a 9-7 win in doubles, giving the team a 5-4 win. Then on Wednesday, he helped the tennis team beat Princeton 9-0, winning his singles match 6-0, 6-0 and doubles 8-1. After that match he went straight to a track meet against Farmville Central and Beddingfield, finishing second in the 3200 Meters to a teammate. Then on Thursday, he helped the tennis team past Beddingfield, winning singles 6-0, 6-0 and doubles by an 8-3 score.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
