STUDENTS FROM ROXBORO COMMUNITY & CHAPEL HILL EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Elana Ingram from Roxboro Community High School and Ryan Smith from Chapel Hill High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Ingram, a senior on the Bulldogs basketball team, had a pair of big performances this week to lead her team to victories. Ingram poured in 22 points with 14 rebounds, five assists and six steals in a 57-39 win against Neuse Charter. She followed that up with a 35 point, 10 rebounds, 13 steals game in a 66-19 win over Franklin Academy. She is averaging 27.5 points per game and surpassed the 2,000-point mark for her career earlier in the season.

Smith, a junior on the Tigers Men’s Soccer team, helped lead Chapel Hill to a 2-0 win over A.C. Reynolds in the 3A State Championship match. Smith scored a goal and had an assist on the other Chapel Hill goal in the victory. He was named the match M.V.P. as Chapel Hill won the school’s first state championship in Men’s Soccer since 1983.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in late April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
